I enjoyed the book, although it wasn't what I usually read. Meaning it was part of Oprah's Book Club and didn't fall into the realm of fantasy or chick lit. I have, believe it or not, read a few books as recommended by Oprah before. I even enjoyed them. Oprah doesn't make bad recommendations, they just aren't my usual cup of escapist tea. My high school English teacher would no doubt be appalled at my literary preferences. Oh well, at least I read.
Where the Heart Is was good. I'm glad I read it. It had a good mix of happy and tragic. More tragic than I would have expected, but it had a happy ending. In other words, I didn't feel like yelling at the characters for the stupid choices they made with their lives. Like I sometimes do with the television (Grey's Anatomy and Teen Mom, anyone?). I'm not going to say it was my favourite book or that I'd read it again, but it was entertaining. It felt like more of a story about what happened than the people that it happened to, although they had subtle changes throughout the book.
Have you seen the movie?? I read the book before I ever saw the movie, and it was actually pretty good. And usually I'm not a huge fan of book to movie adaptations, I feel they rarely live up to expectations!
ReplyDeleteIt is on my to-do list for some time in the next couple weeks. And I definitely hear you on book to movie adaptions.
