I eat like an adult

We had pancakes and sausage for dinner. Because the doctor said sulphites were bad but whatever at least it's not tequila. There were blueberries and chocolate chips in them because I couldn't decide and it's -40 with the wind chill right now. That means exposed flesh freezes instantly. Not that I've experienced that. It also means that your car needs to be plugged in or there is a high likelihood it too will be dead in the morning. Basically, not even cars can survive this kind of weather. So pancakes and sausage with surprise dark bits (at least they aren't raisins). You're following that reasoning, right?

Karl had to go buy syrup. I slowly starved to death while waiting but if you're going to do pancakes on a Tuesday you'd better do them right.

I'm reading Food: A Love Story by Jim Gaffigan right now. Way better than Bossypants. I'm having a bit of a hard time reading it only because I do it at bedtime and it's too funny. I keep wanting to tell Karl the funny bits, which with most books is okay, but that would be basically reading him the book. I highly recommend it. Unless you're pregnant and have food aversions because it's about food.

I missed Downton Abbey on Sunday because our PVR decided to stop working while we were on holiday. Thank God for Netflix. All I wanted to do when we got home was spend the weekend watching TV.

I went back to the gym yesterday for the first time in almost three months. I felt like a new years revolutionary. It was pretty easy to spot who was, too. They travelled in groups of two and didn't get much done aside from signing up. That's half the battle, folks. No one can say they didn't go to the gym.

It was actually really hard to go yesterday even though I was SO READY. And by SO READY I mean that I had to wear my ugly yoga pants, miraculously fit into my sports bra (barely), and was sporting a pretty confusing gut. It's not a perfectly firm baby bump, and depending what pants I'm wearing it just looks like I really, really enjoy a good beer and pizza. Together. Every night. While doing anything but physical activity.

I've been having a heck of a time finding a good pair of maternity leggings. Walmart was a total bust (not unexpected) and Motherhood Maternity was kind of like a scene from a nightmare. Three and a half times the price of Walmart and just as high quality. And their clearance t-shirts were $30. Maybe more people would buy maternity clothes if a whole outfit didn't cost the same as a black market baby.

I set the alarm on my phone to tell me to go to bed at 10 tonight. It's getting real. I have to remind myself to make good life sleeping choices.

And on that note, I have just enough time to watch a show on Netflix.

  2. I don't eat syrup so I swear every time I make pancakes we're out of syrup and I have no idea (Because I don't care) until the husband complains! I started getting back into my workouts (running) a few weeks ago. It's been like torture but I will say the last few runs have been much more comfortable now that my body is getting re-acquainted with the whole "we're-not-sitting-on-the-couch-all-day" thing.

  3. I believe pancakes (and breakfast foods in general) are better for dinner than any other time of the day.

That Jim Gaffigan book is on my list of things to read ASAP. Did you read his other one, Dad is Fat? Hilarious.

  4. Breakfast should be eaten for breakfast and dinner. Every day. I say that as I just finished some eggs and a bagel, and I would gladly go for some pancakes.

I've really been wanting to read that Jim Gaffigan book, but I had to get through morning sickness first. I even had to unfollow him on Twitter and Instagram when I first got pregnant, because his food-related book promotions made me heave more than once.

Have you tried Old Navy for maternity leggings? I won't lie, they're a little thin, but they're so comfy. Target also has really comfortable ones, and they're all half the price of Motherhood Maternity, aka the JCrew of the maternity world.

  5. Have you read Dad is Fat? Awesome. Read it after your baby is here. It makes things 20 times funnier because it's pretty darn true. That food book is next on my reading list. We'll see when I get to that... ha!

Consignment stores were WONDERFUL when I was shopping for maternity clothes. Saved me so much money. The only thing I actually bought from Motherhood was a maternity swimsuit (BEST thing ever) and a couple of nursing bras when I could no longer wear my regular-sized ones. Gap and Old Navy have the best maternity leggings, but that's just my opinion :)
